Back-to-School Shopping with Straight Talk Virtual Reality Demos

This August, stop by any Walmart to test out Straight Talk’s new virtual reality demos.

Quick Answer: Stop into your local Walmart on August 1-5, 10, and 11, to check out Straight Talk Wireless back-to-school VR demos.

August 1-3 and 10: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

August 4-5 and 11: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Freshly sharpened pencils, new backpacks and blank notebooks can only mean one thing: back-to-school season has begun. If you’re planning a trip to your local Walmart to stock up on high-quality, affordable supplies, you’re not alone. The back-to-school shopping season is the second largest shopping season of the year. In fact, 54 percent of shoppers plan to shop at discount stores like Walmart, where they’ll spend about $254 on electronic gadgets like cell phones and tablets* to make it easier to navigate the school year with their kids.

This year, Straight Talk Wireless is setting up shop at Walmart locations nationwide to make the back-to-school shopping experience better than ever, and to give customers the best lesson in wireless: how to get everything for less.

Build your own VR headset

We’ll give you everything you need to create your very own Google Cardboard VR viewer.

With more than 171 million active users, virtual reality (VR) technology has taken the mobile scene by storm thanks to the development of bigger, more vibrant phone displays, affordable VR headsets – like Google Cardboard – and apps designed to take advantage of both of these innovations. To make back-to-school shopping more fun for the whole family, we’re giving shoppers the opportunity to build their very own VR headsets in Walmart locations this August.

When you’re ready to dive into your in-store demo, make your way to the Straight Talk display at the front of your store. You’ll be provided with all the materials needed to create your very own Google Cardboard VR glasses.

Then, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Straight Talk’s VR experience on a demo device provided by event staff or by downloading the VR app experience onto your phone. Once you’ve been whisked away into a virtual world, you’ll find yourself in one of three school-themed VR video environments (Neighborhood Bike Ride, Recess, and Classroom I Spy), where you and your kids can rack up points by identifying Straight Talk benefits hidden amongst your surroundings.
